How regionals work
The 64-team NCAA Tournament field plays through 16 four-team regional tournaments. Each regional is double-elimination — a team must lose twice to be eliminated. The 16 regional winners pair off into eight super-regional series (best of three), with the eight super-regional winners advancing to the College World Series (baseball) or Women's College World Series (softball).
Top-16 national seeds host their regional and the matching super regional. Lower-seeded regional winners travel to the higher-seeded host site for the super regional.
