Tournament format evolution
The College World Series has gone through several format changes since 1947. From 1947-1949 it was an 8-team single-elimination tournament played at multiple sites. From 1950-1987, double-elimination at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. From 1988-2002, double-elimination with a single championship game.
Since 2003, the modern format: 8 teams in two four-team double-elimination brackets, with the bracket winners meeting in a best-of-three championship series. The CWS moved from Rosenblatt Stadium to Charles Schwab Field (originally TD Ameritrade Park) in 2011.
